Submit Your Site To Search Engines

This is a free submission and you should submit your homepage every three or four days until your site is ranked as not all pages submitted are guaranteed to be crawled. If you do not have a sitemap or not all pages on your site are linked to from your homepage, submit as many pages from your site as possible to ensure that all pages get crawled. There are thousands of other search engines that you could submit your site to but as the large majority of all searches takes places through the big players such as Google and Yahoo, your time would be better spent building up backlinks.

Building Backlinks

One of the key factors that will affect your ranking in Google and other major search engines is the number of backlinks (or incoming links) that your site has. The number of backlinks you have will also help increase your Google Pagerank, which in turn will increase your position in Google search results. As the number of backlinks you have plays such a significant role in increasing your Google rankings and pagerank, it is worth investing a large percentage of your SEO time on building up your backlinks.

One key point to be aware of before you start is that the quality of your backlinks is just as important as the quantity. Backlinks from sites with good pagerank values will increase your sites stature far more than backlinks from sites with little or no pagerank. Therefore when building up backlinks, try to obtain links from sites with a pagerank of 2 or above.

The other key point to remember is that you need to include your targeted search term within the backlinks you are building up.
