Now that you've built up your site and you're attracting lots of visitors, you'll probably want to make some money from them. Obviously if your site is designed to sell products or services then you might be doing this already. But sales based or not, as soon as you have traffic to your site, you can make money from it. The easiest and most effective way to make money from your site is to add advertising. If your site is pretty big or commercial, you may be able to sell your advertising slots directly to other companies/advertisers. If not then you should sign up with some advertising networks such as the ones we'll be looking at here.
Advertising networks work simply by you signing up and adding some simple code to the Ad slots on your site. They then display adverts from their network and collect money from advertisers accordingly and give you a percentage of this. Therefore, once you've uploaded the code to your site, there's not a whole lot else you need to do. This is a great way to earn money from your site and is very simple to setup.
Depending on the size and content of your site there are many Ad networks you could use. Be aware that many of them will only accept your site if you meet their minimum requirements, usually based on the amount of traffic your site gets and the content (i.e. no adult content). Adbrite Ad Network
Adbrite is a brilliant Ad network for anyone with a site that gets a lot of traffic as they offer payment on a CPM basis as well as the more conventional CPC basis. CPM means that you will be paid a certain amount each time an advert is displayed on your site a thousand times. This is great if you employ StumbleUpon techniques to generate large volumes of traffic. We use Adbrite adverts on this site and they generate good levels of revenue and are more consistent than the Google Adsense adverts we display. You can choose between text only or image and text adverts which will display a wide range of adverts from many well known brands. They also offer some interesting Ad types such as inline Ads and full page Ads which can greatly increase your earnings.

Google Adsense Network
Google's Adsense is probably the biggest web Ad network out there. This makes it a great place to start out if you're looking to monetize your site. Account setup is straightforward and adding Ads to your site is simple. There's a good range of Ad types on offer and their forilment rate is high. Adsense pays on a CPC basis so it's all dependent on the number of clicks your Ads get but you should be able to attract a reasonable number of clicks easily and make a good return using this Ad network due to the quality of the Ads. BackLinks Link Network
The Backlinks network offers you an interesting different way to earn revenue from your site. Although it can only be implemented on sites with a pagerank of one and above, so you will need to wait until your site gets ranked by Google before you can sign up. The BackLinks network is quick and easy to setup and can earn you a lot of money without taking up much space on your site.
You simply setup an account and then place some code on your site in similar way to Adbrite or Adsense. However, instead of filling your Adspace with Ads, they will sell text links on your pages. They charge their advertisers a set monthly fee and give you half of this. Payments increase with the pagerank of your site so for example on a site with a pagerank of 2 will earn you $1 per link per month and a site with a pagerank of 4 will earn you $3 a link per month. If you've got a site with a pagerank of 2 and you sell ten links a month on your site that's $120 a year for doing very little and using hardly any space on your site.
